Can we get a group consensus on the over/under? My definition is simply that trail crosses I-95, whether via an overpass or an underpass, and whether or not it comes back. To get technical, a bad trail that crosses I-95 would not count towards the over/under.
As I'm sure you all know, over/under is a gambling term from football (any other sport?). The bookie sets what he thinks will be the total points scored in the game, and the bettors bet on whether the actual total will be over or under that number, thus the over/under. I guess if the bookie's number is right on, it's a push.
Dan Jenkins writes about a Texas bookie who would set an over/under for highway deaths on a holiday weekend. One of his characters would always take the over on that bet, because, as he said, "One schoolbus could win it for you."

Yeah, I agree, with just one change: make it "the highway" or "the bridge" or "the causeway" instead of I-95, depending where the trail goes it could be FL Tpke, I-595 (in Ft Lauderdale), or something else, somewhere else
BTW what is the over/under on the SuperBowl ?
And what is the over/under on highway deaths for the SuperBowl weekend ?

Man, so technical and precise. But I have to agree with Yeasty. It could mean a number of things based upon where the trail is going. Anything else we may care to wager on would have to be done in terms of odds or something to that effect.
If we wanted to do a strict interpretation of an over/under it would have to be on beer checks or mileage. For example, the over under on 3.5's trail would maybe be 1 beer check and 4 miles.

From aolsvc.news.aol.com/special1/article.adp?id=20060122230709990007&cid=706 Las Vegas Sports Consultants and Jay Kornegay, race and sportsbook director at the Las Vegas Hilton, also made the Steelers 4-point favorites, with the over-under line set between 47 1/2 and 49 points. The over-under lets bettors put money on whether the teams combine to score more or less than that amount. Initial odds often change as bookmakers weigh the money bettors put on one team or the other.

or I guess it would be more appropriate to say the over under would be 1.5 beer checks. And on that, I will take the under.
But part of me thinks we are just taking the whole prediction thing a bit too far.

Since there's no hash this weekend, let's predict the Super Bowl.
I'm taking Seattle with the 4 points (and also to win the game) and have a small wager with Plopoholic (of course he has Pittsburg). I think with Seattle's offensive line, they will be able to run the ball and control the line of scrimmage. Seattle's defense is very good. I don't see Pittsburg running effectively and the Rothlisberger passing game is no longer a surprise. I don't think he will be able to continue to pass like he has the last few games.
As for the over/under I'm taking the under because both teams have good defenses and I don't see a shoot out. I'd feel better at 49 1/2 but I'm still going under at 47. Even a 30 to 16 game I win.

Oh yeah. And for sure I'll take the over (4 miles) on 3 1/2's trail on Wednesday. Don't think he's ever laid one shorter. I think we'll need to adjust it (over/under) to 5 miles.
